Resilience – How to bounce back faster!

Have you ever thought about resilience and how it can be a transformative factor for high achievers like you? As a high achiever, your resilience plays a pivotal role in your success. After all, our endeavours often feel like an extension of ourselves.

The ability to detach your personal identity from your pursuits can be a game-changer. It’s all about preserving your self-esteem and your unique perspective. Resilience hinges on two crucial traits: Persistence and Flexibility.

Persistence offers you hope and a range of possibilities. It’s like having a toolkit filled with options when faced with challenges. On the other hand, flexibility empowers you to confront the barriers blocking your path to success. It’s about adaptability and being open to different approaches.

When you harness the power of persistence and flexibility, nothing can stand in your way. You become unstoppable, finding creative solutions to any challenge that comes your way. It reminds me of my trip to Venice, where I witnessed their resilience in the face of ‘Acqua Alta.’ Each year, the tide rises, flooding parts of the city. But they’ve mastered the art of dealing with it. Temporary platforms cover the submerged areas, and people navigate through with patience. High achievers continue to excel, and life continues as usual until the waters recede.

This is a powerful example of resilience in action, and it’s a lesson we can all apply to our own journeys as high achievers.

I have developed a Resilience Model which has been very useful when talking about resilience with individual clients and in group discussions within my workshops. In order to build emotional resilience, it requires being aware of yourself and how you react in difficult situations. You must be persistent and flexible.

    • Own your problem and ask the needed questions to be able to solve the problem.

    • Practise empathy- it helps build your own self-worth. You are caring for others and that will help you feel better.

    • Be mindful when you’re in a difficult situation. Allow yourself to experience the stress and notice what is happening internally. Sit with the feeling.

    • Be curious and strive to find a different perspective. The ability to make wiser decisions can come from having more information.

    • Look for long term, sustainable solutions. Avoid the temporary fix and ask yourself what the root cause may be. Move toward a positive and lasting resolution.

How resilient are you now and how much does this impact your success? If you’d like a copy of my Resilience Model, let me know. I am curious to know what helps you build resilience, so leave a comment below.
